Hoffmann was a guest professor at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan from 2003 to 2017 and associate professor at the Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice at California College of the Arts in San Francisco from 2006 to 2012. In 2012, Hoffmann was visiting professor and course leader of the 4th Gwangju Biennale Curatorial Course. From 2003 to 2009, he was a senior lecturer at the M.F.A. in Curating Program at Goldsmiths, University of London. Hoffmann was an adjunct professor at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm in 2001.  

In 2010 Hoffmann conceived and organized the annual Max Wasserman Forum titled Parody, Politics, and Performativity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
